What are the benefits of staying in a Disney Resort in Walt Disney World? Where’s the best place to get deals?

Do you get to stay at the park later? Are there discounts on tickets to the parks? Do you get free parking? I am trying to figure out if it is work it to “stay on park” or to stay at the Holiday Inn that says it is also on the resort? Also where is the best place to book a disney vacation? Should I call AAA or join a Disney Club?

The benefits Disney gives you from staying “on-site” out weigh the price you pay for the hotel (in my opinion). Plus, where else can you find such wonderfully themed and magical hotels!!
